“A cortina de Parrásio” é a segunda parte de um projecto iniciado com “As Uvas de Zêuxis”, uma exposição recentemente apresentada na Casa das Artes, no Porto. Partindo dessa competição entre pintores da Grécia antiga, onde o que estava em causa era saber qual dos dois, Parrásio ou Zêuxis, seria capaz de imitar melhor a realidade de modo a enganar o olhar do outro, Hernâni Reis Baptista constrói uma ficção acerca da alteridade no mundo contemporâneo. Se, no primeiro instante, a natureza - morta, diga-se de passagem -, protagonizava essa intenção, agora, no Sismógrafo, o problema é deslocado para o humano. Através de um dispositivo que tem tanto de “passerele” como de cenário de fim de festa, o artista propõe uma mostra atravessada por questões relacionadas com os ideais de beleza, a ruína, a morte da pintura e a camuflagem. Em pano de fundo, um rádio sintonizado na Antena 2 convoca não só memórias e afectos relacionados com o processo da exposição, mas também prolonga a experiência vivenciada por Hernâni Reis Baptista no seu ateliê, o qual passou a ser habitado por estes sons durante os últimos meses.

Óscar Faria

Hernâni Reis Baptista (Vila do Conde, 1986) vive e trabalha no Porto. É licenciado em Artes Plásticas - Multimédia, pela Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, onde foi selecionado com o prémio de aquisição da exposição de finalistas em 2013. Começou a expor em 2011, de onde se destacam as exposições colectivas “CAVE” (SOLAR, Galeria de Arte Cinemática, Vila do Conde 2012), "Quando alguém morria os gregos perguntava: tinha paixão” com curadoria de Óscar Faria (Sismógrafo, Porto 2016), "Force, Strength, Power", com curadoria de Miguel Mesquita (Galeria Baginski, Lisboa 2017), "Não é ainda o Mar" com curadoria de Óscar Faria (GTM, Gaia, 2018), "The FOCUS: Portugal", com curadoria de João Ribas (Art Toronto, Canada 2019), entre outras. Apresentou individualmente “Mesa” e “Falha” (Espaço Campanhã, Porto 2011 e 2013), “Tropismos”, (Espaço Vésta, Porto, 2015), “T-1000”, (Floating Islands, Maus hábitos, Porto 2015), “Dog eat dog, com curadoria de Óscar Faria (Sismógrafo, Porto, 2016), "Intraduzibilidade, Untranslatability, Unu¨bersetzbarkeit”, (Klub Genau, a par do festival de arte “KARAT, the ocean and the river”, Colónia, Alemanha 2013), “The Confession of the flesh”, (Kubik Gallery, Porto 2018), entre outras. O seu trabalho está representado em coleções privadas e instituições internacionais, como a Fondazione Sandretto re Rebaudengo, Torino, Italia, entre outras. Participou também em residências artísticas na qual se destaca a “360º Context and Process”, pela Triangle Network no espaço Hangar (Lisboa, 2015), Just Residence, by Just Mad Art Residency (Málaga, Espanha), Inter.Meada (Alvito, 2017) e "Simpósio Arte & Sustentabilidade" (Braga, 2018). Trabalha maioritariamente com instalação, escultura, video, e diversos processos digitais.

“Parrhasius's curtain” is the second part of a project started with “Zeuxis’ Grapes”, an exhibition recently presented at Casa das Artes, in Porto. Starting from this competition between painters from ancient Greece, where the question was which of them, Parrhasius or Zeuxis, could better imitate reality, in order to deceive the other's gaze, Hernâni Reis Baptista creates a fiction about otherness in the contemporary world. If, in the first instance, nature - dead, as a matter of fact - carried this intention, now at Sismógrafo, the proposition is shifted to the human. Through an apparatus that is both “catwalk” and end-of-party scenery, the artist proposes a exhibition criss-crossed by issues related to ideals of beauty, ruin, the death of painting and camouflage. In the background, a radio tuned to Antena 2 not only summons memories and affections related to the exhibition process, but also extends the experience lived by Hernâni Reis Baptista in his studio, which has been inhabited by these sounds during the last few months.

Hernâni Reis Baptista (Vila do Conde, 1986) lives and works in Porto. He has a degree in Fine Arts - Multimedia, from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, where he was selected with the acquisition prize in the finalists exhibition in 2013. He began to exhibit in 2011, highlighting the group exhibitions “CAVE” (SOLAR, Cinematic Art Gallery, Vila do Conde 2012), "When someone died the Greeks asked: did he had passion” curated by Óscar Faria (Sismógrafo, Porto 2016), "Force, Strength, Power", curated by Miguel Mesquita (Galeria Baginski, Lisboa 2017), "Não é ainda o mar", curated by Óscar Faria (Gaia, 2018), "The FOCUS: Portugal", curated by João Ribas (Art Toronto, Canada 2019), amongst others.
